HOWELL, NJ - The Monmouth County Board of Commissioners have unanimously agreed to purchase land in Howell for a nearly 500-acre wildlife and water preserve between Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
Dubbed the Metedeconk River Greenway, the expansive patch of land helps to buffer the preserve from nearby land development. During a Jan. 21 meeting of the Monmouth County Board of Commissioners, a resolution was unanimously passed authorizing the purchase of the land to be used as part of the preserve.

The 6.72-acre lot will be purchased by the county for $400,000 from the United Talmudical Academy Torah Veyirah. The commissioners consider the transaction “necessary and advisable to acquire and preserve certain lands and property for county open space preservation, natural resources conservation, and public park and recreation purposes” in Howell, according to the resolution.
The funds are covered by the Monmouth County Open Space, Recreation, Floodplain Protection, Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund, according to the resolution.
