NJSIAA Wrestling: Howell Falls In Sectional Final

Rebels' focus becomes districts, the first step in the state individual championships

The Howell wrestling team is turning its focus to the upcoming district tournament this weekend, after the Rebels fell to Brick Memorial 28-25 on Friday night in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group V championship in Brick.

The District 21 tournament, at Manalapan, features Colts Neck, Freehold Boro, Freehold Township, Holmdel, Jackson Memorial, Jackson Liberty, Marlboro, Matawan and St. John Vianney, in addition to the Rebels and the host Braves. It is the first step in the individual wrestling championships, which continue with the regions the following weekend and conclude with the championships in Atlantic City March 6-8.

The Rebels, who were looking for their second straight sectional title after beating Brick Memorial for the Central Jersey Group IV title last year, won six of 14 bouts Friday night but the Mustangs got key points when they needed them, according to the Asbury Park Press.
