3-Month Preservation Project To Close I-195 Shoulders In Howell

I-195 Shoulders in Howell, Millstone and Jackson will be closed for signal installation for the next three months, according to the NJDOT.

HOWELL, NJ - Daytime shoulder closures on I-195 are slated to begin today in Ocean and Monmouth Counties, according to New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials.

Starting at 8 a.m. on March 24 until 4 p.m., contractor Earle Asphalt, will close the shoulder on I-195 in both directions between CR 526/Trenton-Lakewood Road in Millstone and Route 9 in Howell to install construction signs. Following sign installation, overnight lane closures will be required in the coming weeks to allow the contractor to complete drainage repairs and remove roadway striping, the NJDOT said in a news release.

At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times during construction.

Closures will take place between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., Monday through Friday, for approximately three months. NJDOT will provide advance notice before lane closures begin. The project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2022, although the exact timing of the work is subject to change due to weather and other factors.

The $8.2 million federally-funded project is designed to extend the pavement life, improve safety and enhance ride quality for motorists on approximately 11 miles of I-195 between CR 526/Trenton-Lakewood Road in Millstone, continuing through Jackson and ending at Route 9 in Howell.
