Railroad Avenue To Be Closed This Week In Farmingdale
The road will be shut down due to railroad crossing repairs, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
HOWELL, NJ – Officials from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials announced the start of a railroad crossing rehabilitation project on Tuesday. The initiative will require a three-day closure and detour of Railroad Avenue in Farmingdale, according to a department release.
Starting on Aug. 26 at 7 a.m. until Aug. 28 at 7 p.m., Railroad Avenue will be closed and detoured in both directions at the railroad crossing between Academy Street and Central Avenue at Third Avenue.
Workers will remove the existing railroad crossing and replace it with a new concrete crossing, as well as new asphalt approaches for a safer and smoother railroad crossing. Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses.
The following detours will be in place, according to the Department of Transportation:
Railroad Avenue southbound detour:

· Motorists traveling southbound on Railroad Avenue will be directed to turn left onto Academy Street
· Turn right onto Boud Avenue*
· Turn right onto Central Avenue back to Railroad Avenue
Railroad Avenue northbound detour:

· Motorists traveling northbound on Railroad Avenue will be directed to turn right onto Central Avenue
· Turn left onto Boud Avenue*
· Turn left onto Academy Street back to Railroad Avenue
*Boud Avenue is not allowed as a detour route for truck traffic.
Traffic detours will be coordinated with local law enforcement. The road will be reopened if work is completed earlier than planned.
The federally-funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program, which repairs, upgrades or removes nearly 30 New Jersey crossings each year.
The NJDOT says that the precise timing of the project is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
