Services Set For Dr. Jeffrey Huguenin, Freehold Twp Principal

He was passionate about education, loved soccer and was a loving husband and father, his family said.

HOWELL, NJ -- Funeral services have been set for Dr. Jeffrey Huguenin, the principal of Joseph J. Catena Elementary School in Freehold Township, who died Sunday, Oct. 7 at home. He was 46.

Dr. Huguenin had been principal at Catena Elementary School since 2013 and also was an adjunct professor Georgian Court University, teaching both bachelor's and master's degree level courses, according to his obituary from Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home.

He was a national presenter for educational technologies and a member of the NJPSA, where he published an article in Educational Viewpoints entitled "Hiring Practices for Principals." Dr. Huguenin was acknowledged in the works of Ted Dintersmith in his book Most Likely To Succeed in 2018. He developed a STEAM Center in the Joseph J. Catena Elementary School with the support of Lockheed Martin Corp.

Dr. Huguenin was born and raised in South Amboy and lived in Brick before settling Howell in 2004. He graduated from West Chester University, where he met his wife, Beth, and received his degree in health and physical education in 1994. He received his master's in educational leadership from Georgian Court University in 2003 and later received his doctorate in educational leadership from St. Peter’s University in 2014.

Huguenin had a passion for soccer and played for the West Chester University Golden Rams, later becoming a coach for the Howell United Rebels and Hornets. He was the former President of the Howell United Soccer Club and enjoyed watching Liverpool play for the English Premier League. Jeffrey also was a New Jersey Devils, New York Giants, and Yankees fan. Most of all, he adored his family and was a great father and loving husband.

Jeffrey was predeceased by his father, Thomas Huguenin in 1999; his mother, MaryAnn Huguenin in 2011; and his brother, Scott Huguenin in 2012. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Beth Huguenin of Howell; his daughters, Sara and Emily Huguenin of Howell; his brother, Marc Huguenin and his wife, Lisa, of Princeton; his sisters, Michelle Huguenin of South Amboy, and Mary Charmello and her husband, James, of South Amboy; his mother-in-law and his father-in-law, John and Arlene Salerno of Howell; his brother-in-law, John Salerno and his wife, Barbara, of Howell; his sisters-in-law, Mary Aguirre and her husband, Daniel of Hazlet, and Joan Russo and her husband, Roy of East Brunswick; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 10 a.m. funeral service on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeffrey’s name to the Joseph J. Catena Elementary School PTO in support of the STEAM Center, 275 Burlington Road, Freehold Township, NJ 07728.
