Volunteers Still Needed For Monmouth County’s Meals On Wheels
Homebound seniors living in Monmouth County count on volunteers to deliver 1,100+ nutritious meals each day, according to the nonprofit.
HOWELL, NJ - Monmouth County's Meals on Wheels Program is seeking volunteers to assist in the delivery of 1,100 daily meals to homebound seniors living in nearby communities.
Coordinated by local nonprofit Interfaith Neighbors, the county’s Meals on Wheels initiative provides 350,000 noonday meals to seniors “who have no one else to care for them,” according to the program’s website.
“There is currently an immediate need for volunteers willing to deliver meals from their launching site,” wrote program representative Nancy Kennedy on Patch.

Volunteers are required to assist one day a week on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays. Meals are picked up between 10 and 10:30am and delivered on established routes consisting of 6-10 stops and requiring no more than 1 hour to 1.5 hours to complete.
Stand-by volunteers are also welcomed to fill-in on an as needed basis.
As a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the program has recently introduced enhanced personal, facility and vehicle protocols to ensure the health and safety of volunteers, staff and meal recipients.
Interested volunteers may contact Nancy at (732) 775-5155 or NancyK@InterfaithNeighbors.org.

Patch has partnered with Feeding America to help raise awareness on behalf of the millions of Americans facing hunger. Feeding America, which supports 200 food banks across the country, estimates that in 2020, more than 54 million Americans will not have enough nutritious food to eat due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
