Body Of Fair Haven Kayaker, 78, Recovered In Navesink River

A 78-year-old male was found deceased in the Navesink River on Friday, authorities said. He was reported missing earlier that day.

FAIR HAVEN, NJ - The body of a Fair Haven man who was reported missing Friday was located in the Navesink River this weekend, authorities said.

The 78-year-old male, whose name has not been released pending family notification, was located Friday evening after an extensive search from Fair Haven, Middletown and Rumson police departments, as well as the New Jersey State Police, Fair Haven Fire Department and First Aid Squad, the Asbury Park Press initially reported.

The victim was reported missing at about 10:24 a.m. on Friday after he failed to return from kayaking, the publication wrote. The body of the deceased was recovered around 7 p.m. that evening.

The body was discovered by a boater and the Monmouth County Park Police on the Middletown bank of the river, Red Bank Green reported. The search was conducted through unfavorable weather conditions as winds whipped above 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, the blog wrote.

NJ.com reports that an investigation into the incident is ongoing, although foul play is not suspected at this time.
