Bon Jovi Supports Slain NYPD Cops At Rumson Area Concert

Bon Jovi performed Monday night at the Bobby Bandiera and Friends Hope Concert, where he made a statement supporting fallen NYPD officers.

Jon Bon Jovi wore his heart on his sleeve -- and his support for the NYPD on his chest -- Monday night at the Bobby Bandiera and Friends Hope Concert VII at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank.

Bon Jovi took the stage wearing a “Property of NYPD Football XXL” T-shirt, saying, “I’m showing a little solidarity for my brothers in the NYPD and all of those who protect and serve us every day, no matter what the risks,” according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.

Two New York City police officers, Rafael Ramos, 40, and Wen Jian Liu, 32, were killed Saturday, Dec. 20 in an execution-style murder. The gunman later committed suicide.

Bon Jovi then performed a tribute to the late Joe Cocker, who died on Monday, by performing the Cocker hit “The Letter.”

“Rock ‘n’ roll lost one of the greats,” Bon Jovi said of Cocker. Bon Jovi, who lives in Middletown, also sang his hit “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” and “I Wish Everyday Could Be Like Christmas.”

This year’s Hope Concert benefited the Rumson-based Horizons summer learning programs and the Count Basie Theatre’s arts education and outreach programs.
