Community Mourns Rumson Girl, 19

A community mourns Maddy Massabni, a 19-year-old RFH grad who died of septic shock Thursday, just three days after her 19th birthday.

RUMSON, NJ — Hundreds of people turned out Sunday night for a candlelight memorial service in honor of a young Rumson woman who tragically died far too young at the age of 19.

Maddy Massabni died last Thursday, March 30, "following an unexpected and rare bout with septic shock," her family said. She had graduated from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School just last June. The candlelit vigil was held Sunday night at the beach in Sea Bright, and hundreds reportedly attended.

The beach was one of Maddy's favorite places, according to a page set up in her honor.

"Madalyn Elizabeth Massabni was given her angel wings on March 30, 2017 at 16:55 hours following an unexpected and rare bout with septic shock," her family wrote on this GoFundMe page set up in her honor, which has already exceeded its fundraising goal. "She was taken from us far too soon. Her final hours were spent surrounded by family and loved ones."

The GoFundMe page was started by her uncle, Harvey Tilton, who is a Rumson resident and member of the first aid squad, according to the Rumson-Fair Haven Retrospect.
