Rumson Garden Club Holly Tree Talk

Tis the season to talk about hollies. The Rumson Garden Club and the Rumson Shade Tree Commission are co-hosting a lecture by Bruce Crawford on Native American and British species of hollies on Friday, December 2nd at 4 pm.  The Director of Rutgers Gardens, Mr. Crawford will discuss why hollies are ideal plants for the Two River environment. One only has to stroll around Sandy Hook to see Native American hollies in their element.

At Rutgers Gardens, Mr. Crawford oversees one of the largest collections of hollies in the United States. Starting in the 1950s, Rutgers Gardens extensive holly tree collection was fostered and breed by noted plant biologist and Rutgers professor emeritus Dr. Elwin Orton. This primarily American Holly tree collection is well worth a trip to the grounds of Rutgers Gardens.

The lecture will take place at Bingham Hall, on Bingham Avenue, in Rumson, and seasonal refreshments-- mulled cider, hot chocolate and cookies—will be served.
