FAIR HAVEN, NJ - For those wondering which flowers and vegetables to plant in a backyard garden, look no further: a select group of green-thumbed Fair Haven residents are suited to the task.

On May 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. and May 8 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., locals can purchase plants directly from Garden Club of Fair Haven members, who can advise customers on the perfect flower, shrub, herb or vegetable to take back home.

“All perennials for sale come right out of member’s gardens where they have flourished for years,” Membership Chairman Lee Davidson said in a statement. “[Including] hearty, healthy perennials that will bloom each year because they are the right flowers for this part of NJ. Also available will be vegetables, herbs, small unique shrubs, beautiful hanging baskets and small planters and flower arrangements in our boutique.”

The sale will take place on the lawn of the Fair Haven Fire House (645 River Road) just before Mother’s Day.

This sale is a major fundraiser for the garden club - which regularly holds beautification events and workshops around the borough - and has been a Fair Haven staple for the last 44 years, Davidson said.
