Highlands Man Drove Into Police Car, Had Heroin, Officers Say

MONMOUTH BEACH, NJ — A Highlands man found to be in possession of more than 40 decks of heroin drove into a police patrol car Saturday in Monmouth Beach, police there said. Monmouth Beach PD posted this photo of the cop car after it was hit.

Steven D. Miller of Highlands was driving at approximately 2:45 p.m. Saturday in Monmouth Beach when he struck a Monmouth Beach squad car at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Valentine Street.

When police searched his car, he was found to be under the influence of either alcohol and drugs and in possession of more than 30 decks of heroin. Miller was arrested and charged with possession, reckless driving, driving an unregistered vehicle and DWI. The Monmouth Beach police officer, Patrolman Kevin Duerkes, was uninjured.
