Rumson Playground Closed After Large Tree Struck By Lightning
The Rogers Park playground and baseball field in Rumson are closed until further notice due to a large downed tree, officials said.
RUMSON, NJ - A popular Rumson park is partially closed until further notice due to a large tree downed by lightning on Tuesday, officials said.
After a large tree was struck by lightning, the playground and baseball field at Rogers Park (intersection of Church and Lafayette Streets) are closed until further notice, according to a statement from the Rumson Recreation Department.
"During Tuesday night’s storm that passed through our area, a tree at the park was struck by lightning, causing the tree to split," said Eric Paone-Hurd, the communication and recreation director for Rumson. "Since then, out of an abundance of cation for our residents, the decision was made to close a portion of the park."

Per Paone-Hurd, a tree-removal contractor began work on the site Thursday morning. The park is expected to fully reopen by the end of the day on Thursday.
