Sandy Hook Annual All-Women Lifeguard Tournament CANCELED

This Wednesday, Sandy Hook will host the oldest and largest all-women lifeguard tournament in North America. Watch this video of the event!

SANDY HOOK, NJ — The annual Sandy Hook All-Women's Lifeguard Tournament scheduled for July 25, 2018 has been cancelled due to the weather forecast of heavy rain, thunder and lightning.

Next Wednesday, July 25, Gateway National Recreation Area will host the oldest and largest all-women lifeguard tournament in North America.

This is an annual event hosted every year at Sandy Hook, now in its 34th year. The public is welcome to come watch this exciting and fun event.

The tournament’s 10 competitions highlight the fitness, skill, strength and endurance of contestants in what is still a male-dominated profession. Held to the same standards as their male counterparts, female lifeguards prove their skills and talent handling the physical rigors of lifeguarding.

WHERE: Gateway National Recreation Area’s Sandy Hook Unit in Highlands, N.J., Beach Lot E.

WHO: Women lifeguards at any beach, lake or pool.

Note: Wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the beach in the summer as well as sunscreen. Bring water.
