$7.3 Million Cleveland Kennel Opens

The 15,000 square foot facility will be home to 40 employees, hundreds of volunteers, and between 150 and 200 animals.

CLEVELAND — The new Cleveland Kennel had its ribbon cutting on Thursday. The $7.3 million facility can accommodate up to 150 animals for daily operations.

“The new City of Cleveland Kennel is only one example of the strides being taken to promote sustainable and healthy neighborhoods,” said Mayor Frank Jackson. “Thanks to supporters of the enhanced budget, the great efforts of our community partners and the dedicated staff and volunteers who helped see this work through, the new kennel is ready to serve the needs of animals and residents citywide.”

The new kennel is located at 9203 Detroit Avenue. In emergency situations, up to 200 animals could be accommodated in the facility. The kennel will also have 40 employees and hundreds of volunteers.

Between now and March 17, fees at the kennel have been reduced to $21 (down from the standard $61 fee). All adoptable dogs have been vaccinated, microchipped, spayed or neutered, and come with a Cuyahoga County license.

“As resources became available to build a new kennel, Mayor Jackson was able to allocate and Council approved funds to build this beautiful facility,” said Councilman Matt Zone. “I want to thank them for their dedication and I also want to thank the countless volunteers, staff and supporters who helped make this a success.”
