Who Started Cleveland Clinic? When Was Cleveland Clinic Founded?
Cleveland Clinic began in 1921 when a group of doctors came together to start a nonprofit group care organization with several specialties. Those doctors were Dr. George Crile Sr., Dr. Frank Bunts, Dr. William Lower and Dr. John Phillips. Their offices stood at Euclid Avenue and East 93rd Street and were dedicated on Feb. 26, 1921. Dr. William Mayo, co-founder of the Mayo Clinic, delivered the keynote address.
In 1922, a Cleveland Clinic doctor saved the life of a 4-year-old diabetic orphan using a new drug — insulin.
The Cleveland Clinic Hospital opened in 1924.
