Balto Turns 100, Cleveland Museum To Celebrate

Learn more about the heroic dog's Alaskan adventures and how he came to call Cleveland home.

CLEVELAND, OH - From Cleveland Museum of Natural History: Join the Cleveland Museum of Natural History as we celebrate the 100th birthday of our resident hero dog, Balto!

Learn the story of Balto’s heroic venture—from his legendary serum run during the 1925 diphtheria outbreak in Nome, Alaska to how he came to call Cleveland home – during this special birthday celebration packed with “paws-on” fun for the whole family on March 2, 2019 at 9am in the Wade Oval Lobby. The fun day includes:

· A special Hero Dog presentation in Murch Auditorium
· A junior Iditarod on Smead Discovery Center
· Cleveland Animal Protective League Mobile Adoption Unit
· Guiding Eyes for the Blind service dogs
· And more!

Balto’s birthday will also serve as a special Giving Day in support of the Museum. In the spirit of the Cleveland school children who donated to help give Balto a permanent home in Cleveland after his hero’s tour, we kindly ask that you consider making a donation to support the Museum’s Fund for Discovery during your visit to Balto’s birthday celebration.
