'A Christmas Carol' To Be Broadcast On ideastream

Great Lakes Theater's annual performance of "A Christmas Carol" will be broadcast, for free, on public radio.

CLEVELAND — Great Lakes Theater's classic "A Christmas Carol" adaptation will be broadcast on the radio this year for all to hear.

The theater announced it has partnered with ideastream to present a radio adaptation of A Christmas Carol. The show will be be broadcast at 8 p.m. on Dec. 22 on WCLV 104.9 ideastream and 9 p.m. on Dec. 23 on 90.3 WCPN ideastream.

The show will also be available to stream, for free, on-demand online, from Dec. 22 to Dec. 23 on the ideastream website.

“At a time when many of Northeast Ohio’s arts events have been postponed or canceled entirely, GLT and ideastream are proud to bring this beloved holiday tradition to the community in an entirely new way,” said Mark Rosenberger, chief content officer at ideastream. “We hope the production brings much-needed joy to families across the region as they adapt their plans to celebrate safely.”

Throughout Great Lakes Theater's history more than 750,000 patrons have seen "A Christmas Carol." With the radio broadcast keeping the tradition alive, the troupe will have performed the Charles Dickens classic for 32 straight year.

This year's in-person performance of the show was canceled due to COVID-19.

The radio production will be directed by Great Lakes Theater's Producing Artistic Director Charles Fee. The show will feature Leilani Barrett, Laura Welsh Berg, Lynn Robert Berg, Aled Davies, Jodi Dominick, Patrick Kiernan, Colleen Longshaw, Daniel Millhouse, Jessie Cope Miller, Marlowe Miller, David Anthony Smith, Nick Steen, and Mark Anthony Taylor.

“We are thrilled to partner once again with ideastream. The collaboration will enable our production of 'A Christmas Carol' to live on for a 32nd year in an exciting new radio format,” Fee said. “'A Christmas Carol' has been a holiday tradition for generations of Northeast Ohioans. The classic story’s message of hope and renewal will have special resonance during this unique year.”
