City Of Cleveland Offers Safety Tips During Cold Weather Spell

City officials are advising residents to keep pets inside your home during the extreme cold weather.

CLEVELAND, OH -- The cold weather enveloping Northeast Ohio tonight and tomorrow is nothing to be taken lightly. Extreme caution should be used when venturing out in this weather, which will be with us through the next few days.

Don’t be foolish and careless about how frigid conditions can affect you after a few minutes of exposure. Wind chills are expected to remain below zero during this time.

The City of Cleveland will keep four recreation center open 24 hours for the next two days because of the extreme cold weather. They will keep residents updated on a daily basis through the end of the week.

The four recreations centers are:

Michael Zone Recreation Center, 6301 Lorain Avenue

Zelma Watson George Recreation Center, 3155 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard

Collinwood Recreation Center, 16300 Lakeshore Boulevard

Lonnie Burton Recreation Center, 2511 E. 46th Street

City officials are providing the following safety tips:

  • Check emergency supply kits
  • Take personal precautions and check on the vulnerable
  • Dress appropriately in the cold
  • Pay attention to snow parking bans
  • Don’t block intersections
  • Keep vehicles clear of snow
  • Bring pets inside your home during winter weather
