Cleveland Council Winners In Two Wards Still Undecided

In the Ward 1 race, a mere eight votes separated the candidates, and 13 votes was the difference in Ward 7, confirmed results show.

CLEVELAND, OH – Two challengers in two wards are still waiting to be confirmed the winner in close races against incumbent city councilmen, according to official results by the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. The results are pending certification by the board. Provisional and absentee ballots were counted, and the results were released this morning. According to cleveland.com, there are still ballots to be counted in both races.

In Ward 1, Joe Jones received 2,690 votes (50.07 percent) to incumbent Terrell H. Pruitt's 2,682 votes (49.93 percent). Jones is a former city councilman.

In Ward 7, Basheer Jones received 1,599 votes (50.20 percent) to incumbent T.J. Dow's 1,586 votes (49.80 percent). Jones is an activist in the community.

In Ward 14, Jasmin Santana became the first Latina to be voted into council with 1,042 votes (51.92 percent) to incumbent Brian Cummins' 965 votes (48.08 percent). The Ward 14 voter turnout was the lowest in the city.
