Cleveland Man Arrested in Shooting of Five-Month-Old

Police arrested Charles E. Caldwell Thursday in connection to the shooting that killed 5-month-old Aavielle Wakefield.

A Cleveland man charged with the murder of a 5-month-old has been arrested.

Cleveland police arrested Charles E. Caldwell, 30, Thursday in the October death of 5-month-old Aavielle Wakefield.

Caldwell turned himself into detectives with his attorney present, according to Sergeant Jennifer Ciaccia.

Caldwell was charged in February on accusations of shooting at an Oldsmobile on Spear Avenue near East 145th Street. Wakefield was strapped in a car seat when she was shot in the chest with a bullet. Her mother and 8-year-old sister in the car were unharmed.

A second suspect, Davon Holmes, 19, was charged in December by a Cuyahoga County grand jury for aggravated murder, attempted murder, felonious assault and drive-by shooting in connection to Wakefield's death. Holmes is being held on $2 million bond.

An appearance before the Cleveland Municipal Court for Caldwell has not yet been scheduled.
