UPDATE: Coast Guard Suspends Search In Lake Erie For Missing Fisherman From Cleveland

CLEVELAND, OH — After rescuing one of two fishermen who went missing Monday, Coast Guard officials this afternoon suspended their search. Rescued was Lester Hill, who was pulled from Lake Erie after being spotted by a Coast Guard search helicopter Tuesday afternoon.

Hill's fishing companion, Larry Love, is still missing. The two men had left early Monday from Edgewater marina in a 22-foot Starcraft vessel. Apparently, the boat capsized in the waves, and the men tried to hold on to the sides of the boat. After being in the cool Lake Erie water, Love apparently died, and Hill could no longer hold onto his body in the water.

The two men were expected back to Edgewater marina late Monday. Family members of the men said they tried contacting them via mobile phone, but the calls went straight to voicemail. Their vehicle was still parked in the marina parking lot late Monday.

The Coast Guard this morning dispatched fresh crews aboard Coast Guard boats and a helicopter, to hunt for the men, said a spokesman for service this morning. Crews have been searching since Monday night for the men.

Search crews aboard aircraft and boats from Ontario, as well as the Cleveland police, Lakewood Fire Department and Ohio Department of Natural Resources also are helping in the search.
