COLUMBUS, OH — One in four Ohioans has now received at least part of a COVID-19 vaccine, the state health department announced Wednesday.

With a mass vaccination clinic in Cleveland and roving vaccination clinics throughout the state, along with numerous private distribution partners, nearly 3 million Ohioans have received at least the first part of the two part COVID-19 vaccine. The first COVID-19 vaccines were administered in Ohio in December 2020.

More than 14 percent of Ohioans have been fully vaccinated against the virus, the Ohio Department of Health reported. Since December 2020, nearly 1.7 million Ohioans have completed the vaccination process.

Ohio will expand vaccine eligibility to anyone 16 and older starting Monday. Gov. Mike DeWine said the state is in a race against COVID-19 variants and he wants to protect Ohioans from these more dangerous iterations of the virus as quickly as possible.

To facilitate vaccine distribution, Ohio has launched its first statewide vaccine registration tool, which can be accessed online.
