Cuyahoga County Has 14th Most COVID-19 Spread: Ranking

CLEVELAND — The spread of COVID-19 in Cuyahoga County has slowed, according to Ohio Department of Health statistics.

The state health department has started ranking Ohio's 88 counties by COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents. Last week, based on that metric, Cuyahoga County had the 12th highest spread of the virus. This week, Cuyahoga County has the 14th highest spread.

Cuyahoga County now has 101.8 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents. That's down from 108.1 cases per 100,000 residents last week, the state health department confirmed.

There are currently 1,257 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Cuyahoga County, the Ohio Department of Health said. The county is currently classified as "red" for its COVID-19 spread, but could be reclassified on Thursday.

Gov. Mike DeWine unveiled the new county-by-county ranking tool last week. He said school districts should gauge the threat of COVID-19 locally using the tool.

The top five counties for most COVID-19 spread are:

1. Mercer — 293.9 cases per 100,000 residents
2. Champaign — 185.2 cases per 100,000 residents
3. Darke — 164.3 cases per 100,000 residents
4. Lucas —154.5 cases per 100,000 residents
5. Lawrence — 136.2 cases per 100,000 residents
