Explorer Series Announced At Cleveland Museum Of Natural History

The series begins September 14 with a look at the history of human skin.

From CMNH: Join us as we welcome experts, explorers and adventurers and listen as they illuminate breakthroughs and challenges facing the world of natural history, natural science, human health and sustainability.

The series begins with a talk by Dr. Nina Jablonski on "Human Skin as a Story Book of Mammalian Evolution and Human Culture.”

Human skin is a remarkable product of biological evolution and of cultural evolution. It fulfills all of the roles of a versatile biological boundary surface – protecting us from moisture, sun, abrasion, and most microbes – as it does in other mammals, but it also supports a rich, uniquely human culture of self-expression through body paints, cosmetics, piercings, and tattoos. After this lecture, you will never think about your skin the same again!
