Ferris Wheel Sex Arrest At Cedar Point + New Indians / Yankees Film

Cleveland Daily: All the news you need to start your Wednesday off right.

(Patch file photo)

Talk about a wild ride. Finally, someone got caught doing the deed on the Cedar Point Ferris wheel. Apparently, that's not allowed. What else is going on? (Wait, that's not enough to start your day?)

  • The RTA isn't giving Browns fans any rides across the Waterfront Line Bridge this season
  • "If you're a real Clevelander, you hate the Yankees." Do you know what started that rivalry?
  • The zoo's Asian Lantern Festival is extended into September

Also, the unwanted spotted lanternfly is in town — and mating season is weeks away! (Stay off the Ferris wheel, lanternflies.)

Joy Ride Gets Happy Couple Busted

1) The thrill of a ride on the Giant Wheel at Cedar Point apparently wasn't enough for one couple — they had to engage in a sexual act as the Ferris wheel spun. Two women and two children witnessed the two 32 year olds having sex in the cart ahead of them Sunday night. “I was able to have a perfect view of their cart,” a witness told Sandusky police. “They were going back and forth and laughing at us being visibly upset.” The man and woman were charged with public indecency, a first-degree misdemeanor.

2) Unresolved problems with the Waterfront Line Bridge mean the RTA won't be able to resume train service on the Waterfront Line to help Cleveland Browns fans get closer to the stadium. Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority hopes to have the bridge repairs complete by the 2023 season. Fans should use the Red, Green or Blue lines to Tower City and walk West 3rd Street to get to the stadium.

3) For more than a century, Cleveland and the New York Yankees have been passionate baseball rivals. "If you're a real Clevelander, you hate the Yankees," reminds Sen. Sherrod Brown. Where did that hate begin? On Aug. 16, 1920, a Yankees pitcher struck and killed Cleveland Indians shortstop Ray Chapman with a bean ball. The shortstop's death sparked a bitter rivalry. That incident is featured in a new documentary, "War on the Diamond," by Andy Billman. The film debuts Nov. 15 on Amazon and other streaming services. A trailer dropped Tuesday.

4) Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb has brought police officers assigned to his security detail on the road with him to five different cities for conferences. Meanwhile, the police force is struggling to hire officers. Fox 8 News challenged the mayor Tuesday, asking him for the first time: “How do you justify taking two and three police officers with you to out-of-town conferences for your personal protection at a time when citizens are waiting and waiting here in Cleveland for police due to short staffing? ... Other mayors we checked with do not do the same thing.” The mayor's response: “Due to security concerns, I’m not going to comment on my security detail.”

5) The Asian Lantern Festival at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has been extended through Saturday, Sept. 17. The event was supposed to end this Sunday. What's more, on Sunday, Sept. 18, bike riders will be able to participate in the Wild Ride, pedaling their bikes through the zoo from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to see the lanterns for a final time. This is the fifth year for the Asian Lantern Festival.
