'Muggy, Thundery' Summer 2021 In Store For Ohio: Farmers' Almanac

With hotter-than-average temperatures and thunderstorms expected this summer, Ohioans will need sunscreen and umbrellas when they go out.

OHIO — Ohio will have a "muggy, thundery," summer in 2021, according to a new forecast from the Farmers' Almanac.

"Summer should be stormy, with a greater-than-average frequency of thunderstorms for a large portion of the country. Many of these storms will be strong, particularly over the eastern third of the nation," the publication said.

The first day of summer is June 20. Northern Ohio has already experienced a hotter-than-usual start to spring, with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s this week. Soaring temperatures are expected to continue into the summer for Ohio and other Great Lakes states.

The Farmers' Almanac predicts above-normal temperatures for much of the nation, though the southern and eastern portions of the U.S. will be particularly sweaty this summer. In Ohio, temperatures usually peak in July, but things could get even hotter in late August and September this year.

The heat will also produce plenty of thunderstorms in the Buckeye State and around the U.S.
