Nearly 1,000 New COVID-19 Cases Confirmed In Ohio Amid Uptick
At least 987 new cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Ohio over the past 24 hours, taking the state's total to 48,638 cases.
Nearly a 1,000 new cases of the new coronavirus have been reported in Ohio over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of total infections in the state to 48,638, according to the latest numbers posted by the Ohio Department of Health.
As of Friday afternoon, an additional 987 cases have been confirmed in Ohio over the past 24 hours surpassing Thursday's single-day high of 892 cases since the pandemic began. Over the past 24 hours, the state reported an additional 16 deaths and 68 hospitalizations for the coronavirus.
Over 7,500 Ohioans are currently hospitalized with the illness, just over 1,900 patients are in the ICU and nearly 2,800 have died because of the virus.

Gov. Mike DeWine reminded residents to continue taking steps to stop the spread of the ilness, including practicing social distancing, wearing a mask in public, washing hand and sanitizing any surfaces.

DeWine also released a list of upcoming pop-up locations for coronavirus testing, most of them in the Cincinnati metro region where there has been an uptick in cases.

On Thursday, Dr. Richard Lofgren, from the University of Cincinnati, said southwest Ohio is seeing an increase in hospitalizations related to COVID-19. He said the rate of spread for the virus has also increased. Lofgren said young people are largely driving the increase in new cases.
