New Airline Announces 8 Routes To Ohio

Officials predict the routes will have a $140 million economic impact in Ohio.

OHIO — Breeze Airways, the new airline from JetBlue founder David Neeleman, on Friday announced it will provide eight routes to Ohio, making stops in Akron/Canton and Columbus.

Service to Akron-Canton Airport and John Glenn Columbus International Airport is scheduled to begin in June, according to a release from JobsOhio, which is currently on a mission to restore air travel.

The release states JobsOhio, through the Breeze Airways partnership, is looking to add and retain businesses in the Buckeye State.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said the routes will help the state meet that goal.

"We are excited to have @BreezeAirways in Ohio!" the governor said on Twitter. "The new routes in Akron-Canton and Columbus will further promote economic development and tourism here in Ohio. #OhioFindItHere."

The airline aims to provide very low costs and easy service from one destination to another. In a news release, the company said most of its routes include less than two-hour flights.

Ultimately, the airline said it will provide 22 planned weekly flights to Ohio, which could bring more than $140 million into the state's economy.

Among the companies that could benefit from the routes, according to JobsOhio, are more than 30 combined Bridgestone and Goodyear Facilities and three of the four largest banking employers in Ohio.

Honda and Ford facilities, 17 General Electric facilities and other manufacturing setups for Emerson Electric and Honeywell also stand to gain from the routes.

"Increasing Ohio's air service will drive growth in regional economies and create jobs," DeWine said in a statement. "Breeze Airways will connect Ohio companies across multiple sectors to business connections and customers at over 350 facilities across the eight routes served from Ohio, further fueling our state's economic recovery."
