New COVID-19 Cases Continue Uptick In Ohio

Hospitalizations related to the new coronavirus were also up on Wednesday.

COLUMBUS, OH — Ohio's uptick in new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continued Wednesday, even as vaccination efforts continue statewide.

In the past 24 hours, the Ohio Department of Health has confirmed 1,989 new cases of COVID-19. That's up versus the state's average of 1,623 cases per day. On Tuesday, 2,458 cases were confirmed among Ohioans.

Hospitalizations related to the virus were also up on Wednesday, with 108 Ohioans seeking medical treatment for the virus. That's up versus the state's average of 89 COVID-19-related hospitalizations per day. On Tuesday, 151 Ohioans were admitted for COVID-19 treatment, the state health department said.

At least 966,333 Ohioans have contracted COVID-19 and recovered, the Ohio Department of Health said.

Nearly 29 percent of Ohioans have received at least the first part of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the state health department. More than 16.5 percent of Ohioans have received both COVID-19 vaccine shots.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 3.38 million Ohioans had received at least the first shot of the two-part COVID-19 vaccine; and 1.94 million Ohioans have completed the vaccination process.
