No Charges For Officer Who Shot, Killed Arthur Keith In CLE

CLEVELAND — A Cuyahoga County grand jury did not bring charges against a police officer who shot and killed Arthur Keith in Cleveland.

On Nov. 13, 2020, a 911 caller said a person who had fired a gun in the King Kennedy Complex had returned. When officers arrived, they spotted a car that matched the caller's description.

Police said Keith got out of the car and then "pointed a gun" at an officer. Police then fired four shots, including one that hit Keith in his midsection, killing him, Cleveland 19 reported.

There was no body camera footage of the shooting and surveillance video of the incident reportedly only showed the aftermath, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said. A gun with Keith's DNA on it was found near his body, police said.

Senior Attorney General Anthony Pearson said the single bullet that killed Keith entered near his back armpit and then angled through his chest, striking his heart and lung. He said that based on the evidence collected by investigators, the grand jury determined that police acted reasonably and therefore no officers were indicted.

The Cochran Law Firm, which represented Keith's family, said eyewitnesses saw police shoot Keith in the back, WKYC reported.
