The Obamas Offer Condolences to Voinovich Family, Viewing and Funeral Plans Announced
The latest tribute to former Cleveland Mayor, Ohio Governor and U.S. Senator, George Voinovich comes from President Obama.

Washington, D.C. — President Barack Obama today issued this statement on the passing of George Voinovich:
"Michelle and I were saddened to learn of the passing of former Senator George Voinovich. As was clear in his 46 years in public service, George was a true patriot who dedicated his life to serving the people of Ohio. His dedication is underscored by the fact that he holds the record for being elected to more public offices than any other Ohioan in history.
George leaves behind a powerful legacy of service to his state and country that will not soon be forgotten. Michelle and I offer his wife, Janet, and their children and grandchildren our condolences during this difficult time."
Former Ohio Governor, U.S. Senator and Cleveland Mayor George Voinovich died peacefully in his sleep early Sunday morning. He was 79.
On Thursday, a public viewing will take place in the rotunda of Cleveland City Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. in Euclid.
