Otter Pups Ready For Their Close-up At Cleveland Zoo

This "vulnerable species" of otter is protected by a Species Survival Plan Program certified by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

CLEVELAND, OH – Bitzy and Kibble, the two Asian small-clawed otters at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, became the parents of three pups Sept. 24. The three bundles of joy have been growing stronger and more mobile. They'll soon be joining the zoo's other Asian small-clawed otters in the RainForest.

Asian small-clawed otters are the smallest species of otter. They are considered a "vulnerable species" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Their population is managed by a Species Survival Plan Program that is certified by the Association of Zoos and Aquarium, of which the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is a member.

The Zoo now has seven Asian small-clawed otters. The RainForest exhibit is part of the Zoo's commitment to the preservation of species like the Asian small-clawed otters.
