Overnight Construction Truck Miscue Forces Closure Of I-480 Lanes
A construction worker failed to lower the bed of a truck before driving under the sign between the Route 176 and I-77 ramps along I-480.

CLEVELAND, OH—Early morning morning eastbound commuters along Interstate 480 were forced to take a detour after a sign truss across the highway was damaged by construction crews and needed to be removed. The highway reopened shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday before the height of the morning rush hour.
A construction truck, which had its bed raised, hit the sign truss located between Ohio Route 176 (the Jennings Freeway) and Interstate 77 during overnight repaving work, said Ohio Department of Transportation spokeswoman Amanda McFarland. The eastbound side of the of the highway was closed at about 5 a.m.
“Our engineers didn’t feel it was safe to let (the sign) remain standing,” McFarland said. (To stay up to date on local stories, subscribe to the Patch Cleveland newsletter. As news breaks and the story develops, you will be the first to receive updates from Patch.)
