CLEVELAND — President Joe Biden discovered something Thursday many Northeast Ohioans have known for decades — Honey Hut ice cream is really good.

Following a speech at Cuyahoga Community College, Biden's motorcade made a brief and unscheduled stop at the Honey Hut in Old Brooklyn. He ordered scoops of chocolate chip on a cone, and then said he couldn't imagine why anyone would vote against a commission looking into the Jan. 6 riots, according to CNN.

If Biden's stop for ice scream seems unexpected...you should get to know the president's eating habits. During a speech in Ohio, he said, "My name is Joe Biden and I love ice cream."

That's both simple and emphatic as presidential statements go. Then in 2017, during a speech at Cornell University, he reiterated his love for ice cream.

"I love ice cream … I’m the only Irishman you guys know who’s never had a drink and loves ice cream," Biden said, according to a PBS report.

In 2021, Jeni's Ice Cream, which is based in Columbus, released its White House Chocolate Chip flavor in honor of Biden.

So Thursday's stop at Honey Hut was merely the latest chapter in a long-lasting love affair between Biden and his favorite treat, ice cream.
