Severe Thunderstorms Possible In Cuyahoga County, Eastern Ohio

Damaging wind gusts and scattered hail could cause damage in the region.

CLEVELAND — Damaging thunderstorms could form Monday afternoon in Northeast Ohio, the National Weather Service warned.

"There is the possibility for some thunderstorms to become severe this afternoon. Damaging wind gusts and hail will be the main threats," the agency said in a hazardous weather statement.

Thunderstorms aren't likely to form until after 2 p.m., the agency said. Northeast Ohio is the area most likely to see inclement weather on Monday. The following counties were specifically singled out as possibilities for seeing thunderstorms: Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Ashtabula, Medina, Summit, Portage, Trumbull, Wayne, Stark, Mahoning, Holmes, Erie, and Crawford.

As the storms move into Ohio, they're also producing choppy waters on Lake Erie. The front is moving across the northern Detroit suburbs into northern Ohio, producing northerly wind gusts of 20 to 30 knots on Lake Erie.

However, wind speeds should die down below 15 knots by 10 or 11 a.m., the National Weather Service said.
