METRO CLEVELAND, OH — An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper has been recognized for his heroic actions in saving the lives of two people, including a man in a wheelchair, from a house fire earlier this year.

Trooper Hiram Morales on Tuesday received the Superintendent’s Citation of Merit award, among the highest honors the highway patrol gives out, according to a News 5 Cleveland report.

Morales found the burning home on West 47th Place in Cleveland on Jan. 23 after he was flagged down by people in the neighborhood. He spoke Spanish to calmly guide an elderly couple not proficient in English to safety, the report states, citing a statement from the highway patrol.
