Two Cleveland Council Seats Go To Challengers

After provisional and absentee ballots were counted, the two challengers in the Ward One and Seven races have emerged as the winners.

CLEVELAND, OH -- In two of the closest council races in recent history, two challengers have defeated the incumbents in Wards One and Seven. The official results were released this week by the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. Basheer Jones is the new councilman in Ward 7, and Joe Jones is the Ward 1 councilman.

Basheer Jones received 1,599 votes to T.J. Dow's 1, 586 votes, a margin of 13 votes. Joe Jones, who returns to council after a several year absence, received 2,690 votes to Terrell Pruitt's 2,682, a margin of just eight votes.

The two new council members will join their fellow council members in the swearing-in ceremony at 7 p.m. Jan. 1 in council chambers.
