Vax-a-Million: 5th, Final Winners Announed

Ohio's final winner of a $1 million lottery was announced Wednesday evening.

OHIO — Esperanza Diaz, from Cincinnati, is the fifth Ohioan to win $1 million through the Vax-a-Million lottery.

The winner of the four-year college scholarship is Sydney Daum, from Brecksville.

The lottery rewarded randomly selected Ohioans for being vaccinated against COVID-19. Adults qualified for a $1 million prize, while Ohioans younger than 18 could win a full-ride scholarship to any Ohio college.

For this week's drawing, there were 3,428,514 adults competing for the $1 million prize. Among Ohioans 12 to 17, there were 150,187 hoping to win a college scholarship through the program. That's an increase of 66,311 adult entries and 6,583 scholarship entries from the previous week.

A little more than 47 percent of Ohioans are currently vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
