Woman Shot While Driving Through Eastside Cleveland Neighborhood

The assailants were in another vehicle, she told police.

CLEVELAND, OH — A 28-year-old woman was shot in the chest by someone in an SUV as she drove along an east side street late Tuesday night, police said. The woman, identified at Dominia Smith, was being treated at MetroHealth Medical Center for the gunshot wound.

Police were called to the neighborhood of 7200 Garden Valley Ave. for gunshots. They arrived at the intersection of East 71st Street and Roy Avenue to find the wounded Smith, who told police that she saw a black SUV driving without its headlights on.

She told officers she then saw shots being fired from the SUV, and sped up to to try to escape the area. That’s when a burgundy-colored SUV pulled up alongside her car and someone fired shots into her car, hitting her in the chest, according to police reports.
