Delta Flight Diverted For 'Unruly, Violent' Passenger: Airline

The flight headed to Orlando from Salt Lake City was diverted to Oklahoma City.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — A Delta flight headed to Orlando had to divert to Oklahoma City when a customer became "unruly and violent on board," the airline said in a statement.

According to USA Today, the passenger, identified by authorities as Derek Maas, 28, was arrested in Oklahoma City Friday morning. An Oklahoma City police spokesperson told the paper that Maas was "extremely drunk" and belligerent.

The paper reports Maas had been drinking before the flight and asked for more drinks on board. He allegedly headbutted a male flight attendant and had to be restrained, according to USA Today.

“Delta applauds the quick action and professionalism of the crew of Delta flight 2603 operating from Salt Lake City to Orlando which diverted to Oklahoma City after a customer became unruly and violent on board," Delta said in a statement. "The crew restrained the customer and the flight was met by law enforcement in Oklahoma City, where he was removed and taken into custody. The flight continued to Orlando, arriving two hours past schedule. The safety and security of our customers and crew are always Delta’s top priority.”
