OK Water Professionals, Academics Heading To Sustainability Conf
July event will focus on optimizing water use efficiency and protecting the south's water quality.

STILLWATER – Some of Oklahoma’s leading water management professionals will head to College Station, Texas in July for the annual Southern Region Water Conference, to be held at the Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center.
The three-day conference will provide timely information to farmers and ranchers, agricultural and water professionals, researchers, Extension educators and students on optimizing water use efficiency and protecting water quality in the south, said Kevin Wagner, director of Oklahoma State University’s Oklahoma Water Resources Center and a member of the conference planning team.
“The program will include discussions from both ag producers and researchers on a wide range of topics from irrigation and nutrient management to soil health, watershed management and protecting private water wells,” Wagner said. “Other conference topics include nutrient and pest control to protect water quality, septic system management and rainwater harvesting.”

Jason Warren, OSU Cooperative Extension soil and water conservation specialist, encourages anyone in the Oklahoma agricultural industry to take advantage of the conference to introduce innovative sustainable farming ideas into the state.
“There is a great opportunity here to learn first-hand from the professionals about how you can best manage your water in an efficient, sustainable way,” Warren said. “You would be doing yourself and the entire state of Oklahoma a favor by attending.”
