Oklahoma City Celebrates National Drinking Water Week

The City of Oklahoma City is joining countless municipal water utilities across the country to recognize national Drinking Water Week this week.

Organized by the American Water Works Association (AWWA), Drinking Water Week highlights the different ways water utilities serve their customers with clean, treated drinking water.

“Our water supply is critical to our ongoing vitality as a City,” said City Manager Craig Freeman. “We are fortunate to have a water utility that is not only reliable, but focused on meeting the needs of future generations through robust infrastructure investment and sound financial practices.”

The City of Oklahoma City serves more than 1.4 million people in Central Oklahoma with drinking water supplied from six water reservoirs located along a 250-mile span within the state. It also manages more than 4,000 miles of water lines, and operates two water treatment plants.

“Our employees are extremely proud to play a vital role in the ongoing sustainability of our community,” said Utilities Director Chris Browning. “Oklahoma City’s drinking water has rated as some of the best in the country in both quality and taste.”

The Utilities Department is committed to providing customers with reliable, quality water service.

“Our communities can’t function without clean, safe drinking water,” Browning said. “Oklahoma City’s history of bold and visionary leadership over the past 100-plus years has provided residents in Oklahoma City reliable water service. We continue long-term planning to ensure quality water service for generations to come.”
