The draft outlines growth trends, environmental protections, trail and park upgrades, and cultural preservation goals that will guide zoning, recreation, and public services over the next decade.
   

• Multiple vehicles catch fire at Meridian Waste in Christiansburg after electrical short, no injuries reported (wsls.com) — Multiple Meridian Waste trucks in Christiansburg caught fire Wednesday morning after an electrical short, sending loud pops and smoke into nearby neighborhoods but causing no injuries. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which destroyed several vehicles but left the rest of the lot mostly intact. Residents who heard the noises are being assured they were tires popping, not explosions.
   

• Blacksburg Town Council to consider rezoning 4+ acres on University City Boulevard for six-story, high-density residential building (cardinalnews.org) — Blacksburg Town Council is set to vote on rezoning 4.6 acres on University City Boulevard for a six‑story, high‑density housing and commercial project designed with help from Christiansburg-based Balzar & Associates. The proposal includes student and affordable housing, commercial space, and parking, with recent design changes to address nearby neighborhood concerns. Tonight’s hearing is the last public meeting of the year for the current council.
