8 Sisters Die Of Coronavirus At Elm Grove Convent

The outbreak comes months after six sisters at Our Lady of Angels Convent in Greenfield died of the coronavirus in less than a month.

WAUKESHA COUNTY, WI—Eight sisters have died of the coronavirus at Notre Dame of Elm Grove since Dec. 9, according to the School Sisters of Notre Dame Central Pacific Province.

A statement from the congregation says there are other confirmed cases of the coronavirus among the 88 sisters living at the Notre Dame of Elm Grove.

"All CDC guidelines are being followed regarding the care of sisters affected by COVID-19 and to avoid spread of the virus, including wearing masks, social distancing and handwashing," the statement said.

The news comes a few months after six sisters at Our Lady of the Angels Convent in Greenfield have died from the coronavirus. Our Lady of the Angels Convent, co-sponsored by the School Sisters of St. Francis and the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

"Out of respect for the privacy of our sisters, we do not plan to share any additional information. Our thoughts and prayers are with the sisters, their caregivers and families. We invite you to join us in prayer for all those affected by the pandemic," the School Sisters of Notre Dame Central Pacific Province statement said.
