Bill In Memory Of Waukesha Student To Be Heard Tuesday
The Kai11 Bill is on the agenda for the Assembly Education Committee.

WAUKESHA, WI—A bill for providing cardiac testing for students will be heard on Tuesday during the Assembly Education Committee.
"We did it! The Kai11 Bill (AB82) is scheduled on the Assembly Education Committee’s agenda for Tuesday, June 15th. The Bill has also been given a two-hour time slot so testimony is open to anyone who wants to make a trip to Madison. Thanks everyone for emailing and calling to help get this life saving legislation pushed forward," The Kai Lermer Memorial Fund posted.
The Kai Lermer Memorial Fund has been working on the Kai11 Bill with hopes to have a law in place prior to the start of the 2021/2022 school year.

Kai Lermer was a triathlete at Waukesha North High School who died unexpectedly at the age of 16 of an undiagnosed condition that led to sudden cardiac arrest.
Kai's family wanted to give back, so they started the Kai Lermer Memorial Fund in association with the Waukesha County Community Foundation to support the awareness, detection and prevention of heart disease in children, teenagers and young adults.

The Kai11 Bill would place information in the annual WIAA packet with facts on the risk of sudden cardiac arrest in student athletes, giving parents and guardians the option to complete an EKG test on their children prior to playing sports.
The Kai11 Bill was fast-tracked in the Wisconsin Senate and passed by a unanimous bi-partisan vote.
