Can't Find Ice-Melt Salt? You're Not Alone In Waukesha

WAUKESHA, WI -- Ice-melting rock salt is flying off store shelves so quickly in Waukesha, residents are struggling to come up with a bag or two to help them through the latest round of winter weather.

According to multiple reports, people are lining up at local hardware stores just to buy rock salt. Box box retailers are reportedly struggling just to keep a stock for a few hours at a time before they run out.

According to a WTMJ report, Tomchek Ace Hardware on Sunset Drive went through two truck loads of salt in just a few hours. “People are acting like there is a golden ticket in here from Willy Wonka the way this stuff is flying out the door,” manager Don Dishno said to a WTMJ reporter.

And according to a story in the Journal Sentinel, one owner went through 10,000 bags of salt in five days. "We're 100-percent out of everything right now," said Adam Hahn, owner of Hahn Ace Hardware in Delafield. "As we are getting salt in, it's been going out just as fast."
