Ceremonies Take Place Nightly Honoring Waukesha County’s Fallen

There are 68 men whose names will be read aloud to recognize their ultimate sacrifice, over the course of the visit of the memorial.

WAUKESHA, WI—The City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department announced nightly ceremonies at 9 p.m. will take place at the Frame Park Amphitheater recognizing all of the men listed on the nationally touring, half-sized replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, “The Moving Wall.”

The memorial will be in Frame Park Thursday at noon and open 24 hours each day through Memorial Day, closing at 6 a.m. on Tues., June 1.

“Mayors and Presidents of our Waukesha County communities will be present to read the names of the men listed on The Moving Wall from their communities,” said Joanna Adamicki, special events coordinator in a statement. “There are 68 men whose names will be read aloud to recognize their ultimate sacrifice, over the course of the visit of the memorial. We appreciate the opportunity to honor them.”

Recognition of each of the Waukesha County communities will take place as follows at 9 p.m. unless otherwise noted:

Thursday: Waukesha (Opening Ceremony at 6 p.m.).

Friday: Big Bend, Brookfield, Delafield, Elm Grove.

Saturday: Hartland, Menomonee Falls, Mukwonago, Muskego, New Berlin;.

Sunday: North Prairie, Oconomowoc, Okauchee, Pewaukee and Sussex.

“The Moving Wall” memorial includes the names of more than 58,000 servicemen and women who gave their lives in service during the Vietnam Conflict. For more information on “The Moving Wall,” visit themovingwall.org.

There is no Memorial Day parade scheduled this year due to the pandemic.

Waukesha Library event

In conjunction with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall visit, there is an adult book discussion of "We Were Soldiers Once and Young," by Lt. Gen. Harold G. Moore and Joseph L. Galloway at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. A limited number of copies of the book will be available for checkout at the Reference Desk.

Please bring a lawn chair and meet near the Cutler Park Bandshell. In the case of inclement weather, the discussion will be rescheduled. Registration is requested but not required. You will only receive information about rescheduling if you are registered.
