Dog Found As 'Skin And Bones' Now In Recovery

A 7-month-old Lab Mix weighing less than 10 pounds was turned into HAWS in Waukesha County. Here's how to donate to help homeless pets.

WAUKESHA, WI -- Animal care workers in Waukesha County are nursing a dog back to health after a concerned citizen turned an emaciated dog into the Humane Animal Welfare Society in Waukesha over August.

Now, HAWS officials say the dog - who was less than ten pounds and seven months old when she was turned in - is gaining weight and well into her recovery.

"She was literally skin and bones – and we were worried she was suffering from much more than malnutrition. She was also vomiting up small pieces of plastic. What was she going through?! If only she could tell us," HAWS officials said in a Facebook post.

According to the humane society, veterinarians ran tests and did extensive exams and monitoring, and found all results to be normal. Just a few weeks after her arrival, she started gaining weight and is now up to 14 pounds. Staff named the young lab mix Bethenny.

"Bethenny will be in foster care for a while, and we’ll keep everyone posted as to her progress," HAWS is reporting. "We are confident she will make a full recovery!"
