WEST ALLIS, WI— The cancellation of the Wisconsin State Fair has left pangs of nostalgia and cravings for cream puffs in West Allis and around the state.

Miles Patzer, General Manager of Station No. 06, 6800 W Becher Street, understands the feeling all too well.

Station No. 06 has a way for people to commiserate. For a limited time, the bar is offering the “Cream Puff” cocktail with vodka, cream, bourbon-barrel aged maple syrup, and vanilla.

Staff was throwing around ideas and thought the cream puff is what everyone freaks out about the most.

"We figured fried food on a stick doesn't sound very good for a drink," Patzer said.

Half the fun of eating a cream puff is attempting not to get flakes of powdered sugar and drops of cream all over. The drink has extra whipped cream for a similar experience.

Fun at the fair

Patzer understands how the fair takes people back to a time in their lives. He grew up in West Allis and went to the fair almost every year. His favorite activity was the Midway games.

"When I went to the fair with my wife I had to try and win a stuffed animal for her," Patzer said.

His grandmother lived closer to State Fair Park and charged people to park on her lawn. For nostalgia's sake, he made his wife do lawn parking versus calling for an Uber.

Besides the cream puff, his family always had to buy a Mille's Italian sausage or roasted corn.

"There was always something we had to check off our fair food list," Patzer said.

New reputation for West Allis

People yearning for a classic besides cream puffs should look no further. The bar also offers up cocktails with West Allis names such as Becher Street Manhattan, Allis Old Fashioned and
a drink called McCarty Park.

"We always incorporate that West Allis flare to our drinks," Patzer said.

West Allis has been a huge part of Patzer's life. His mother's side of the family-owned an A&W across from the fair in the 20s.

"That stigma of dirty Allis, we have been trying to fight that and push that away without letting go of our roots," he said.

Patzer told Pach he hopes to bridge that gap of what West Allis was many years ago during the Allis-Chalmers and the new era with cocktails like "Cream Puff." For more information visit the website for Station No. 06.
